Serious gamers like me are always looking out for the newest in online games. During one of my daily game industry hunts, I chanced upon a new online RTS (real time strategy) game called End of Nations, produced by Trion Worlds. What made me interested is the massive multiplayer aspect of the game, possibly a first for the RTS genre.

End of Nations gives its gamers the option whether to play alone or to go hand in hand with the other players. Add to that, gamers are also at liberty to choose their own environment. One environment permits the players to create their own, personalized commander character. This commander character is set to lead an army of tanks and weapons into various wars all over the planet, in order to fight the computer-generated antagonists. The other alternative environment, however, is set on a more complicated and competitive (definitely more dangerous) battlefield. It has a team-based multiplayer as part of a bigger "metagame" wherein two opposing parties compete against each other for power and world dominion.

While most of the game’s development remains shrouded in secrecy, Trion Worlds has revealed that it intends the game to be a continuous cycle, where one side ultimately wins after seizing enough territory. While potentially engaging, this scheme could take a few months to be played out, as territory switches from one side to the other. Each sector will show a unique map, with its own climate, promising diverse gameplay.

The fixed layout strategy allows gamers to hone their skills in battling and thinking. In order to device strategies to get ahead of their opposing forces, gamers must familiarize themselves with the layout of each sector. Now for the sake convenience and ease, Trion Worlds is also including smaller and larger versions of the maps to accommodate teams with different numbers of players.

Trion Worlds says that factions who capture and successfully hold a territory will be receiving strengthening rewards, while the losing side is expected to also have access to some kind of "consolation" factors. Once one of the factions finally claims victory, the world map will reset so that the war can begin anew.

The conquest mode of End of Nations is likened to the Battlefield series wherein various key points can be captured by a player’s side by leading their army into the hotspots and waiting for their turn. Moreover, the sector maps also possess victory points and extra bonuses that can aid the players in their battle for victory.
