Shortly after it was opened to the general public, the Internet has become a prominent fixture in the daily lives of millions of people. The technology allows for much of the knowledge and content of the world to become available with just a few clicks. It is a common view that the Internet houses the sum of all human knowledge still available at this point, missing only that which has been lost to history. With a single lick of the mouse, the average person can access a myriad of topics, including banking, history, electronics, finance, politics and so much more. The Internet has also evolved to become a prominent part of entertainment, with games, TV shows and more being easily accessible over its networks.

Before anything else, we must define what the Internet is and how it works. The Internet is a tool wherein we can access information from any part of the world, such as documents from the World Wide Web and other services like instant chat, email and social networking sites. Usually, people confuse the Internet to the W3.

The Internet is a network of cables which allows users to access information of various sorts. The data is transmitted through the Internet Protocol (IP) which gives each computer a separate identity in the form of IP address.

Prior to becoming the widespread phenomenon it is today, the use of the Internet was expensive and prohibitive. Potential users couldn’t get it at home, so they had to go to public places and pay at high hourly rates to use it. As time went on, the increase in data transmission speed and the emergence of HTTP made it more accessible to the average person, as well as allowed for a decrease in cost. Networks soon began to establish themselves and provided the service to the general public. In many cases, it is possible for someone to enjoy a home connection that has very high speed and near-unlimited access. English is considered the lingua franca for most of the Internet, largely because most websites were developed in the US, but also because it allows for an increased level of accessibility. However, languages such as Chinese, Japanese, Arabic and Spanish are all gaining a foothold in the number of websites that are exclusively in that language.

The Internet has brought many benefits to many people, opening different opportunities that were unheard of in the past. For example, it is now much easier to look for a job over the Internet than by walking from office to office; at times, the Web even has a far better selection of potential employers than one would find by looking in the real world.

This goes to show that this breakthrough has made a lot of activities very easy. It is even used for various purposes, even with important matters such as education and government organizations. Thus, it’s not really a surprise that ever since its phenomenal development in the years 1996 and 1997, the growth for the Internet has been at around hundred percent per year.

The Internet has indeed innovated the way information can be viewed and is definitely a great invention of our time. It can be used for a lot of things like for music, movies and
